His name is connected with the places where the popular Jamaican recordings were broadcast by local sound systems. Initially, the genre was more sparse version of reggae than the roots directory style, which dominated much of the 1970s. However, in the mid-1980s, digital instrumentation became more prevalent, changing the sound considerably, and increasingly being characterized by faster rhythms.
