Reading is one of the most important skills to be able to gain new knowledge or access information. So, how can we do reading in the most effective and efficient way
Our mind is very powerful and it processes a lot of information per second. At slow reading, the mind gets a lot of free and hence it gets distracted. As a result we have poor concentration. Therefore speed reading gives better concentration and therefore the mind do more work without distractions and that results in higher level of concentration.
STRATS TO INCREASE READING RATE
1. Understand eye movements. While reading, your eyes move jerkily, stopping on some words and skipping others. You can only read while your eyes are stopped. If you learn to make fewer movements per line, you'll read a lot faster.
2. Develop a wider eye span. Train your eyes to make fewer movements. Our brain normally decides where to move our eyes based on how long or familiar the next words look. We can read faster if we train your eyes to move to specific places on the page instead.
3. Skimming and scanning: These techniques are reading techniques that use rapid eye movement and keywords to move quickly through text for slightly different purposes. Skimming is reading rapidly in order to get a general overview of what we read. Scanning is reading rapidly in order to find specific facts in the material or topic. Read titles and section headings. Read the bning and end of a section. Circle important words throughout the text.
4. Your Speed. Track your progress by timing yourself daily, or each you try these exercises. Trying to beat your best speed can provide great motivation.
